Lost: Tips and Tricks for Beginners

featured image

Compared to many other modern video games, strayed is something of an anomaly. Rather than sticking to all the tropes and trends that today’s gamers have become accustomed to, it seems like more than just content to do its own thing and arguably a much better game as a result. However, its uniqueness can make it much harder for some players to enjoy, especially when it comes to some of the larger areas of the game.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

With no mini-maps or quest markers, players must make a mental note of where certain key locations are, at least in the slums and Midtown areas. They’re also expected to think a little outside the box to solve some of the game’s puzzles, and must be prepared to run from enemies rather than face them head-on. With this in mind, these tips and tricks for beginners for strayed should help make the game much easier.

Zigzag to avoid Zurks

As players will soon learn, the main antagonists in strayed are the cat-killing Zurks. Apart from a very short period between the seventh and eighth chapters of the game, players are encouraged to avoid these little critters like the plague rather than tackle them directly, but this isn’t as simple as running in a straight line.

To best avoid Zurks, players should run in a zigzag pattern. In the event that they’re pinned, they’ll have to spam the Circle button to get free, but it’s much easier to just avoid getting caught. Zig-zagging can also be useful when you’re being chased by security drones, especially at the end of strayedthe eleventh chapter.

Take advantage of the terrible enemy AI

There’s a lot to love strayed, although that doesn’t mean it’s the perfect game. For example, the enemy AI is incredibly disappointing, especially since much of the game’s difficulty is derived from the stealth sections. This rare gray cloud has a nice silver lining, though, with players able to abuse the poor enemy AI to avoid unnecessary checkpoint restarts.

During Chapter 10 of strayed, players must sneak past security drones in both the Neco Corp factory and the residence where Clementine lives. These drones also appear in the next chapter, but can be easily avoided by jumping into a cardboard box. Even if a drone sees a player jump into one of these boxes, they will eventually give up and fly away, so players should use this to their advantage when needed.

Do not hurry

strayed is an incredibly short game by modern standards, with players typically able to complete everything on offer in about five or six hours. As such, players really don’t need to rush on their first playthrough, and this would be doing both themselves and the game’s developers a huge disservice.

The neon-drenched cyberpunk world of strayed is wonderfully well realized, with Easter eggs and secrets hidden in each chapter. Players should therefore take the time to fully explore these excellent environments rather than rushing to the finish line. By the way, for completers there will be plenty of time for that during their “I am Speed” trophy playthrough.

Tracking down the memories of the B-12

There are several collectible sets in strayed, including badges, energy drink cans and sheet music. By far the most interesting, however, are B-12’s memories, which can be activated by reaching certain points in the story or by exploring some of the glowing items found throughout the game’s 12 chapters.

These 27 B-12 memories allow players to learn a lot more about both the friendly little companion character and the plague-ridden world the game is set in. Learning how B-12 got stuck in the big computer that players run into in Chapter 3 is incredibly interesting, as are his motivations for helping the cute kitten reach the outside world.

Unleash your inner cat

There are quite a few cute feline actions players can perform in strayed. These include scratching furniture, napping in unusual places and sniffing at unsuspecting robots. The most primary of these, however, is Meow, which players can do simply by pressing the Circle button when using a PlayStation pad.

While all of the actions mentioned above come with trophies (two, in the case of crabs), Meowing can be really useful in the game. In addition to distracting a robot in the slums into dropping a can of paint, players can also meow to distract enemies or lure them into certain areas. Scratching can also come in handy, especially during the last chapter of strayed.

strayed is now available on PS4, PS5, and PC.
